Soil Amendment Requirements
The intent of requiring soil analysis and soil improvements is to improve and protect the environment, minimize erosion and stormwater runoff and promote the wise and efficient use of water.

These adopted soil standards require the retention of native vegetation and associated soils where appropriate, and ensure that other required pervious surfaces include properly-amended soils. These requirements can be found in the code linked below under the sections listed.

For information about soil testing, analysis and amendments please see the King County Extension Office website. The King County Department of Development & Environmental Services has also produced a very informative brochure called Achieving the Post-Construction Soil Standard, which provides information on how to preserve and restore soil quality on sites after construction is completed.
