Strategic Mobility Projects

Overview

Each year, the City identifies, designs and constructs small improvements throughout the City, completing near-term connections in the mobility system.

This annual project focuses on sidewalk and bicycle gaps, as well as safety improvements.

Background

This year, six sites were selected for this program, and construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2023.

Projects

The six sites are listed below with brief descriptions of their improvements:

NW Firwood Blvd

Improvements will add a sidewalk connection and install curb ramps for an existing crosswalk near the intersection of NW Firwood Blvd and Kalmia Pl NW, improving neighborhood access to a school bus stop.

NW Juniper Street

A 10-foot multi-use urban trail with 6-foot landscape buffer and street lighting will be constructed, filling a gap in the Juniper Trail on the north side of Juniper Street between 3rd Ave NW and 2nd Ave NW. Improvements also include a new illuminated crosswalk across NW Juniper Street, and replacement of stormwater infrastructure.

SE Andrews Street

Improvements will fill a sidewalk gap as well as install curb ramps and a new crosswalk at the intersection of SE Andrews St and 4th Pl SE.

2nd Avenue SE

A 10-foot multi-use urban trail connection will be constructed, connecting Front St S to the Rainier Trail and West Tiger Mountain Trailheads. Construction also includes crosswalk improvements at the Juniper Trail crossing and the relining of stormwater pipes.

3rd Court NW

Improvements will fill a sidewalk gap north of NW Dogwood St to the Confluence Park/Margaret’s Meadow Trailhead parking and include construction of drainage swale, roadway repair, and stormwater improvements.

SE 56th Street

Improvements will reconstruct a sidewalk panel adjacent to pedestrian pushbutton to meet accessibility requirements on the northwest corner of SE 56th St and East Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE.
