Cultural Conversations: Celebrating Pride Month

Thursday, June 24, 2021

Join us for a community presentation to learn about the meaning and significance of Pride Month to and for those who consider themselves part of some version of the rainbow flag. Mitchell Hunter, Training Manager at GenPride Seattle, is presenting some historical background, context and framework for the shared lives and experiences of LGBTQ+ adults. By affirming the identities of, demonstrating respect for and promoting inclusion of this very diverse community, we can together, find the myriad of ways we are more alike than we are different. Resiliency, strength and courage are the hallmarks of a people who have stood for and with so many others to help usher in a more equitable and inclusive world for all of us.

GenPride empowers older LGBTQ+ adults to live with pride and dignity by promoting, connecting and developing innovative programs and services that enhance belonging and support, eliminate discrimination, and honor the lives of older members of our community.

Mitchell C Hunter is an activist leader in the Transgender (Trans)/NonBinary (NB) and LGBQ communities for the last 30 years. Currently working-from-home as Training Manager at GenPride Seattle, he has served on Seattle’s LGBT Commission, where he jointly created Seattle’s single-use, all-gender restroom law. Mitch collaborated on the SPD’s model transgender policy and is featured in their mandatory training video. He has presented for and represented such organizations as: Komen Puget Sound; Virginia Mason’s Transgender Health Guiding Team; and the UW Medical Center’s: Transgender Health elective course. Mitch works with corporations; health care facilities, clinics and hospitals; institutions; faith communities and organizations to create more inclusive, social, equitable environments and communities that further visibility, appreciation, leadership, and respectful, empathetic practices that humanize and celebrate us all.
