Congratulations to Niall Wachtman, recipient of our Sports Volunteer of the Year Award!
For more than six years, Wachtman has served a volunteer coach with our youth basketball, Gliders track and field, and youth soccer programs. Along the way, he has positively influenced hundreds of young athletes.
Wachtman fits the mold of outstanding volunteer coach. In addition to being kind, positive, outgoing and funny, he understands the goals of our program. With a smile, he teaches his players and runners about fun, sportsmanship and teamwork.
“Niall is always the first person to step up to volunteer at a Gliders event — even when his own daughter isn’t participating,” said Joanne Hartman, head coach of our Gliders program. “It isn’t out of the ordinary for him to call me when a big event is approaching to see if he can lend a helping hand. He is truly an asset to the program and our community!”
The annual award is presented by our Parks & Recreation Department and the Park Board. Wachtman was honored May 28, 2015, during the Issaquah Community Awards ceremony.
