[ARCHIVED] - Salary Commission Recommends Changes to Compensation -

The compensation offered to our elected public servants will change soon.

A five-member Independent Salary Commission recently concluded its review of City Council compensation, and recommended the following changes:

  • The salary of council members has been set at $1,250 per month ($15,000 per year), with the salary of the deputy council president at $1,350 per month ($16,200 per year) and the council president at $1,450 per month ($17,400 per year).
  • Council members will be eligible to participate in the City’s 457 deferred compensation plan.
  • Council members will be eligible for the City employee monthly cell phone reimbursement rate of $20 per month.

The changes will go into effect July 1, 2015.

The commission studied the relationship between council members’ salaries and the costs personally incurred by council members to perform these duties. In addition, the commission examined how council members’ compensation compare with nearby cities and market conditions.
