We're undertaking a comprehensive review of several crosswalks to confirm they provide safe, convenient ways for pedestrians to get around our community.
Working with our team and an independent transportation expert, we will identify priority crossings, review new technologies and identify potential next steps.
Based on the comprehensive review, funding will be included in the City of Issaquah’s proposed 2016 budget to make improvements.
On June 26, 2015, a driver struck and killed a 4-year-old boy in a crosswalk at Northwest Oakcrest Drive and Newport Way Northwest.
"As a community, our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy. We join our entire community in mourning the loss of Haochen Xu," Mayor Fred Butler said. "We echo our community members in stating that safety is always our No. 1 priority."
In addition to the comprehensive review, the City will host a community meeting in late July or early August to foster a dialogue among residents, pedestrians and drivers to identify issues and opportunities.
