[ARCHIVED] - Community Open House: Safe Access for Pedestrians -

We're undertaking a comprehensive review of several crossings to confirm they provide safe, convenient ways for pedestrians to get around our community.

You're invited to a community open house from 6-7:30 p.m. July 27, 2015, as we foster a dialogue among residents, pedestrians and drivers. The community open house will be at Tibbetts Creek Manor, 750 17th Ave. N.W.

Working with our team and an independent transportation expert, we will identify priority crossings, review new technologies and identify potential next steps.

Based on the comprehensive review, funding will be included in the City of Issaquah’s proposed 2016 budget to make improvements.

On June 26, 2015, a driver struck and killed a 4-year-old boy in a crosswalk at Northwest Oakcrest Drive and Newport Way Northwest.

"As a community, our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy. We join our entire community in mourning the loss of Haochen Xu," Mayor Fred Butler said. "We echo our community members in stating that safety is always our No. 1 priority."
