[ARCHIVED] City Council Lowers Speed Limits on Two Streets

Drivers: Prepare for new speed limits on sections of two Issaquah streets.

After thorough study and consideration, the City Council approved lower speed limits Dec. 21, 2015, on the following streets:

  • East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast, from 229th Avenue Southeast to Southeast 56th Street: 40 mph to 35 mph (The speed limit was previously lowered temporarily to 30 mph due to ongoing roadwork.)
  • West Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast, from 193rd Place Southeast to the Bellevue city limit: 35 mph to 30 mph

The new speed limits will go into effect Jan. 5, 2016.

In September, the council lowered the speed limit on Newport Way Northwest, between State Route 900 to the Lakemont Interchange, from 40 mph to 30 mph.

These streets serve as gateways into our community. A lower speed limit communicates to drivers that they are entering our City, and not simply traveling on a thoroughfare.

Other factors affecting these streets include planned development, and the number of driveways.
