[ARCHIVED] Get Outside: 2016 State Parks Free Days

Enjoy Washington's state parks for free throughout 2016.

You're invited as the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission hosts a free day for state park visitors on the following dates:

  • Jan. 17-18 — Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday
  • March 19 — Washington State Parks’ 103rd birthday
  • March 26 — springtime free Saturday
  • April 22 — Earth Day
  • May 8 — springtime free Sunday
  • June 4 — National Trails Day
  • June 11 — National Get Outdoors Day
  • Aug. 25 — National Park Service’s 100th birthday
  • Sept. 24 — National Public Lands Day
  • Nov. 11 — Veterans Day

Such free days keep with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on lands managed by Washington State Parks, and the Washington departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish & Wildlife (WDFW).

On free days, a Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by DNR and WDFW.

In addition, free days apply only to day-use visits with vehicles, not overnight stays or rented facilities.
