We’re seeking exciting public art opportunities for Issaquah's new skate park.
The City of Issaquah invites professional artists or artist teams to submit their qualifications for consideration to create artwork for our new skate park at Tibbetts Valley Park.
Following extensive community input, the City contracted Grindline Skateparks — a visionary leader in developing skate parks throughout the United States — to design a 10,500-square-foot facility at vibrant Tibbetts Valley Park.
The new skate park will complement a popular, well-utilized sports complex that serves athletes and visitors of all ages and abilities. The site is conveniently located near Interstate 90, State Route 900 and a regional transit center.
The artwork should enhance the aesthetics of the skate park and Tibbetts Valley Park. The selected artist or artist team will work with skate park design firm Grindline and City of Issaquah staff to ensure a cohesive design between the skate park and accompanying public art.
As a gathering place to enjoy recreation, the art should be engaging and pleasing for all ages.
Works in a variety of media and forms will be considered.
Art shall require limited maintenance and withstand the area's climate. Artists should also consider the high amount of activity in the skate park, and artwork should be durable to withstand potential abrasion.
Potential areas include — but are not limited to — concrete stairs, retaining walls, entrance areas, fencing and/or planters.
The total budget for the project is $40,000. It includes all of the artist’s fees, travel, design, insurance, permits, fabrication, labor and installation.
Applicants must live in Washington state and have past experience with integrating art into built architecture.
To apply, submit the following materials via email:
- A letter of interest, with a limit of two pages, indicating your vision and approach for the project
- A professional resume or CV with qualifications (If you’re submitting as an artist team, you must submit a resume for each team member.)
- Three professional references with current contact information from completed or current projects
- Visual support materials of previous work; 10 images max
- Annotated image list to accompany any submitted images
All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. Feb. 15, 2016.
Proposed selection notification is Feb. 26, with artwork design to occur in the first and second quarters of 2016. Construction of the skate park and artwork installation is anticipated to begin in third quarter of 2016.
