To allow councilmembers more time to review legislation, the City Council will soon launch work sessions.
The new monthly work sessions, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, will feature a roundtable format, allowing the council to better share workload and include all councilmembers in shaping important issues.
The council’s regular Committee of the Whole (COW) Council meetings, which are focused more on presentations, will now be held quarterly.
Action on legislation will still only be taken at the council’s twice-monthly regular meetings or other special meetings.
The work sessions, like all COW and regular council meetings, are open to the public. In addition, the work sessions will be televised live on ICTV Channel 21 and stream live.
The first work session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. May 13, 2013, in the Council Chambers, 135 E. Sunset Way.
In addition, the council’s twice-monthly regular meetings will start at 7 p.m., rather than 7:30 p.m., beginning May 6, 2013.
