A pedestrian-friendly neighborhood could soon be built near the heart of Issaquah Highlands’ retail center.
Plans for the project, The Brownstones at Issaquah Highlands, call for 176 townhouse condominiums. The applicant, Polygon Homes, aims to build the residences on 8.48 acres north of the Discovery Heights apartment homes and south of Grand Ridge Plaza.
The City Development Services Department is conducting a preliminary review of the proposal.
The plan for The Brownstones emphasizes pedestrian connections to the surrounding area. Buildings will be arranged for easy pedestrian circulation and to create open space for residents and guests.
The proposal includes plans for a pedestrian plaza to be constructed through the site. It will provide a direct connection to Grand Ridge Plaza. In addition, a 10-foot-wide walkway will run east to west, connecting 10th Avenue Northeast to Highlands Drive Northeast.
Pedestrian gathering points will be incorporated throughout the site.
These points will be located at the pedestrian plaza at the intersection with the east-west connection, at the northwest corner of the site near the intersection of Highlands Drive Northeast and Northeast Ellis Drive, and at the southwest corner overlooking the intersection of Highlands Drive Northeast and Northeast Discovery Drive.
Construction is expected start later this year, with project completion slated for 2015.
