Enjoy Washington's state parks for free throughout 2016.
You're invited as the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission hosts a free day for state park visitors on the following dates:
- May 8 — springtime free Sunday
- June 4 — National Trails Day
- June 11 — National Get Outdoors Day
- Aug. 25 — National Park Service's 100th birthday
- Sept. 24 — National Public Lands Day
- Nov. 11 — Veterans Day
Such free days keep with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on lands managed by Washington State Parks, and the Washington departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish & Wildlife (WDFW).
On free days, a Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by DNR and WDFW.
In addition, free days apply only to day-use visits with vehicles, not overnight stays or rented facilities.
