[ARCHIVED] Senior Center: City Starts Operations Jan. 3, 2017

In order to provide the best quality services possible to our community's seniors, we're working to provide a seamless transition of services at the Issaquah Senior Center.

The current service provider, Issaquah Valley Seniors, will discontinue operations Dec. 30, 2016.

Starting Jan. 3, 2017, the senior center will reopen under City operation, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. The senior center is located at 75 N.E. Creek Way.

"Our vision is clear — to provide every senior with a welcoming place to access resources and services. Moving forward, we are committed to working with our community's engaged and growing senior population to explore new opportunities," Mayor Fred Butler said. "I also want to thank Issaquah Valley Seniors for working with us to ensure a smooth, seamless transition of senior center operations."

Everyone in our community will be welcome to use the facility. Working with seniors and other community members, we look forward to offering expanded programs and services, while maintaining existing services.

As a City, we have a long history of supporting seniors through our nonprofit partners and with direct services, such as discounts for fitness classes and utilities. Through grants, we support meals, transportation assistance and service referrals for seniors.

Seniors make up a significant portion of our community. More than 7,000 seniors call Issaquah home — an increase of more than 5 percent since 2010.

We recently worked alongside our community in order to better understand the needs and aspirations of our growing senior population. Our complete report, Aging in Issaquah, reflects our focus on providing all seniors in Issaquah with access to community resources and services.
