City Council voiced support Dec. 12, 2016, for completing the Central Park field project, utilizing a phased approach and a combination of funding sources.
The project — which will install all-weather turf and lighting at Central Park's Field 1 — will create two multipurpose sports fields, providing more year-round opportunities to play.
The council will take a final vote Dec. 19 on a plan to spend $3,730,000 for:
- Two all-weather turf fields
- Standard lighting/li>
- An interim parking lot (across from Central Park access road)/li>
- A portion of the previously-planned paths, seating and other amenities/li>
Project costs would be covered via grants, bond financing and parks mitigation funds.
Meanwhile, the City will include other possible additions to the project (such as LED lights and safety improvements to parking along Central Park Lane) when the project is bid. The council will further consider these items and make a final decision on including them when the construction bid is awarded in early 2017.
