As part of its Earth Week series of educational events, King County is offering a free, guided public tour of its Cedar Hills Regional Landfill in Maple Valley at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013.
The last operating landfill in King County, Cedar Hills covers 920 acres and accepts about 800,000 tons of garbage each year from the City of Issaquah and throughout King County, excluding the cities of Seattle and Milton.
The tour lasts for about one hour, advanced reservations are required and space is limited to 40 people.
Reserve your spot by calling 206-296-4490, TTY Relay: 711. Parking is provided at the landfill, at 16645 228th Ave. S.E., Maple Valley, and participants will board a wheelchair-accessible King County Metro Transit bus for the guided tour.
To ensure safety, tour participants must wear closed-toe footwear and adhere to all traffic signs at the landfill. The tour is intended for adults; children ages 5 and older are welcome, if accompanied by an adult. Tours for school groups can be arranged by calling 206-296-4490.
