Enjoy Washington's state parks for free throughout 2017.
You're invited as the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission hosts a free day for state park visitors on the following dates:
- Jan. 1 — New Year's Day/first hikes
- Jan. 15-16 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- March 19 — Washington State Parks' 104th birthday
- April 15 — springtime free day
- April 22 — Earth Day
- June 3 — National Trails Day
- June 10 — National Get Outdoors Day
- Aug. 25 — National Park Service's 101st birthday
- Sept. 30 — National Public Lands Day
- Nov. 11 — Veterans Day
- Nov. 24 — autumn free day
Such free days keep with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on lands managed by Washington State Parks, and the Washington departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish & Wildlife (WDFW).
On free days, a Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by DNR and WDFW.
