[ARCHIVED] - Update: City Church Demolition Proposal -

Plateau Campus LLC has proposed demolishing the City Church buildings at 441 228th Avenue Southeast.

The proposal includes demolishing on-site buildings, including disconnecting electrical, gas, water and sewer, as well as preserving the stained-glass windows and donating them to the Sister of Providence.

The City’s Development Services Department –and not the City Council – was bound to review this demolition request, and make a determination under the current land use laws that have been adopted by the City.

The City of Issaquah evaluated the environmental impacts of the proposed demolition (and site stabilization), and first determined it would not have a probable significant adverse impact on the environment.

Following a 14-day public comment period in April 2017, the City updated its decision, and added a condition (in response to the public comments) to help ensure the windows would be preserved.

Even if the City changed the property’s historic designation now, it would not affect the vested demolition permit or resulting SEPA (State Environmental Policy Act) decision.

On May 1, 2017, the Sammamish Heritage Society appealed the City’s SEPA decision, which will now be reviewed by a Hearing Examiner at 10 a.m. May 31 in Council Chambers, 135 E. Sunset Way.
