[ARCHIVED] - Remembering Former Councilmember Ernie Smith -

Ernie Smith, a former Issaquah City Council member, recently passed away.

Smith, who served on the council in the 1980s, was also active in our community as a youth sports coach and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah. He was 68.

Ernest Ray Smith was born April 24, 1949, in Kelso, the son of Dean and Dona Smith. He was raised in Kelso and graduated from Kelso High School and the University of Puget Sound, where he played basketball and baseball. 

In the late 1970s, he moved to Issaquah to work for Puget Sound Bank, and then finished his career with Columbia Bank.

Throughout his life, Smith was an avid outdoorsman and family man. He had a sense of humor nobody could resist, and had a wide and wonderful circle of friends.

Survivors include his wife Robin Lee-Smith, daughter Andrea Lee Jordan and son Tyler Lee Smith (Melissa). He is also survived by his sister Diana Messinger (Mike), brother Robb Smith (Susan), sister-in-law Anne Lee, brother-in-law Eric Lee, mother-in-law Pauline Lee and many nieces and nephews.
