Construction is starting soon to replace a culvert that runs underneath Newport Way Northwest near Northwest Oakcrest Drive.
Starting the week of Aug. 7, the contractor (Rodarte) will mobilize, and equipment/materials will begin to arrive on site. Temporary erosion and sediment control measures will be installed, and crews will start constructing a temporary roadway so that traffic to be diverted to the south.
Soon after, crews will start working on the north side of the roadway to install the first sections of the culvert.
Throughout the project, two lanes of traffic will typically remain open on Newport, but the lanes will be tighter, and trucks may cause delays as they enter and leave the site.
The new culvert will reduce flooding risks, as well as improve fish passage and habitat along the creek. Learn more about the project, its impacts and projected schedule.
