[ARCHIVED] - Moratorium: Safe Injection Sites -

On Sept. 5, the City Council first discussed an agenda bill on Community Health Engagement Locations (CHELs) – also known as safe injection sites – and referred the topic to Issaquah’s Human Services Commission and Council Services & Safety Committee for more review.

However, since a King County-wide initiative on safe injection sites (Initiative 27) is scheduled for a vote during the Feb. 13, 2018 special election, the City Council considered an alternate path.

During its Oct. 16 meeting, the council adopted a six-month moratorium on CHELs in Issaquah.

A public hearing is scheduled for the City Council’s Nov. 6 meeting.

While the Human Services Commission will not be discussing the original agenda bill, it does plan to host a presentation on opioids and CHELs during its Nov. 28 meeting.
