[ARCHIVED] Summer Gardening Kick-off: Growing a Stronger Community

Stock up on organic plants and help build a stronger community at the Issaquah Summer Gardening Kick-off, a partnership to support the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank.

The food bank and Seattle Tilth joined the City of Issaquah Office of Sustainability to grow and donate 1.5 tons of fresh produce to hungry families this year.

At Issaquah Summer Gardening Kick-off, you can help by buying a plant to either donate to a community garden, or to plant in your own garden with the goal of giving the produce to the food bank.

The kickoff is part of the Issaquah Farmers Market on Saturday, June 1. The event and the farmers market run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Pickering Barn, 1730 10th Ave. N.W.

Head to Pickering Barn to shop at the plant sale, meet community gardens and support the food bank. The event also includes activities for children.
The plant sale will feature more than 1,600 locally-grown vegetables, culinary herbs and edible flowers for sale.

The food bank will be promoting Tools for School supply drive — a community effort to provide 1,000 local children with a backpack and essential schools supplies.

Seattle Tilth offers a bounty of seasonal activities, including organic gardening classes for adults, summer garden camp for kids, family activities and volunteer opportunities in the community learning garden at the Pickering Barn.
