[ARCHIVED] - East Lake Sammamish Trail Reopens Soon -

The community is invited to celebrate as the Issaquah segment of the East Lake Sammamish Trail reopens to bicyclists, runners and other trail users.

Join King County and our community leaders to cut the ribbon and reopen the newly developed trail segment, a 2.2-mile-long section from Southeast 43rd Way to Northwest Gilman Boulevard. The celebration will be at 11 a.m. June 12, 2013, at the trail’s terminus along Northwest Gilman Boulevard.

In the meantime, the Issaquah segment – between Southeast 43rd Way to Northwest Gilman Boulevard – is under construction. For your personal safety, please refrain from using the trail until it officially opens for public use on June 12.

King County is putting on the finishing touches right now, so the trail is still considered a construction zone.

See the trail closure map, project FAQ and project summary for more details.

The ongoing work transformed the trail from a crushed rock surface to a 12-foot-wide paved trail with 2-foot soft-surface shoulders on each side. The trail is more accessible to trail visitors of all ages and abilities.

Safety upgrades include enhancing intersection and road-crossing treatments, as well as other design improvements.

The trail follows a historic railroad route along the eastern shore of Lake Sammamish and connects Issaquah, Sammamish and Redmond.

Funding for the project was provided by the voter-approved 2008-13 King County Open Space and Trails Levy, Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program, and the Federal Highway Administration.
