[ARCHIVED] Coexisting with Carnivores: Zoo Needs Issaquah Participants

Carnivores

Woodland Park Zoo is looking for volunteers who are interested in being part of the Coexisting with Carnivores program. These volunteers will form teams that will work to help their neighborhoods coexist more easily with carnivores. Teams will decide what are the most important issues related to carnivore conflict in their neighborhoods, and what they think are the most effective solutions. Woodland Park Zoo and the City of Issaquah will provide support and help for teams to learn about carnivore behavior, brainstorm carnivore conflict prevention measures, and eventually enact their solutions.

Each team can decide what level of commitment they want to give, whether it is a short meeting every two months, or a long one every other week. Teams can also be groups that already exist and want to keep working together, so you can participate as a group of friends or a club you’re already a part of.

If you are interested in being a part of such a team, or simply learning more about the program, we hope you will be able to make it to one of our first Coexisting with Carnivores team meetings. We have planned three meetings in three different locations, with the hope that everyone interested will be able to make it to one (note: please only come to one of the meetings! They will all be roughly the same).

Thursday, October 11

7pm to 8pm

Rogue Ales Issaquah Brewhouse

35 W Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA 98027

Saturday, October 13

10:30am to 11:30am

Saturday, October 27

At these meetings, we will be brainstorming the most pressing carnivore-related issues in your neighborhoods, beginning to think about potential solutions to these issues, and discussing the best way to proceed as part of these teams.

To RSVP to a meeting, please email Dakota.spear@zoo.org. RSVP is not required to attend, but we do hope to provide enough snacks for everyone who comes! If you cannot make it to any of these meeting dates, but still would like to be part of a carnivore action team, please also email Dakota.spear@zoo.org to be added to the team email list.
