[ARCHIVED] Green Direct: Issaquah to Reduce Carbon Emissions

Thanks to Puget Sound Energy’s Green Direct program, about 95 percent of Issaquah’s city facilities will receive electricity from renewable energy sources – both wind and solar – in Washington state by 2021.

The City Issaquah participated in Green Direct’s first offering a year ago to harness wind power in southwest Washington.

Green Direct’s second round offering – a solar project slated for completion in 2021 – will be located in south-central Washington.

“We are thrilled to support the development of innovative renewable resources right here in Washington state,” said Issaquah Mayor Mary Lou Pauly. “This groundbreaking program aligns with our values and environmental stewardship goals – and also helps us meet our own targets for reducing carbon emissions.”

In addition, Green Direct helps Issaquah implement its Sustainable Building Action Strategy, which aims to position Issaquah as a leader in sustainable building through specific, actionable measures.
