[ARCHIVED] - Update: Funding Discussions on Pinch Point Project -

The City is committed to working with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to explore funding opportunities that would make Northwest Sammamish Road more accommodating for cyclists and pedestrians in the area called the “pinch point.”

As part of its auxiliary lanes and sound wall project, WSDOT – with the request of a financial contribution from the City – included plans to relocate a retaining wall along Northwest Sammamish Road at the “pinch point” to provide room for future intermodal improvements.

Since the project was presented at City Council’s Jan. 29 meeting, WSDOT officials recently informed Issaquah that they are now seeking a decision on any City funding prior to the state opening bids.

The City Council will be considering this potential expense alongside other priority transportation capital projects on Issaquah’s list. This is challenging, as the City’s funding sources for large capital projects are limited.

The Council’s Ad Hoc Finance Committee has been working hard identifying funding options for transportation capital projects, which the full council will review during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. March 4. With WSDOT scheduled to go to bid on its project soon, a decision on the pinch point funding could then be made during the council’s regular meeting at 7 p.m. March 18.
