Update: Newport Way NW Design

Following the adoption of a preliminary design, also called a corridor concept, for Newport Way Northwest between state Route 900 and Southeast 54th Street in 2017, the City of Issaquah has now reached another milestone!

After reaching 60 percent design for the corridor, a value engineering study was conducted to find opportunities to improve the value of the project and/or find cost savings.

Considering the study’s recommendations and the City’s recent purchase of the abutting Bergsma property, as well as the previous community input, the new preferred road section includes the following design changes on the Cougar Mountain side of the road between Northwest Oakcrest Drive and SR 900:
  • A possible narrower sidewalk (5- to 6-feet instead of 6 feet)
  • No landscape buffers on either side of the sidewalk
  • A shorter retaining wall with less impact to Cougar Mountain

No other changes were recommended for roadway design.

Learn more via this presentation and memo, and watch online.

In addition, an open house will be scheduled for June (more details are coming soon!) to present these changes in person, answer any questions and review next steps for this project.
