Open House: Newport Way NW Design

Join us for an open house from 6-8 p.m. June 12 at Tibbets Creek Manor to learn more about design work underway for Newport Way Northwest between state Route 900 and Southeast 54th Street.

Following the adoption of a preliminary design, also called a corridor concept, for this section of Newport Way Northwest in 2017, the City has now reached another milestone!

After reaching 60 percent design for the corridor, a value engineering study was conducted to find opportunities to improve the value of the project and/or find cost savings.

Considering the study’s recommendations and the City’s recent purchase of the abutting Bergsma property, as well as the previous community input, the new preferred road section includes the following design changes on the Cougar Mountain side of the road between Northwest Oakcrest Drive and SR 900:
  • A possible narrower sidewalk (5- to 6-feet instead of 6 feet)
  • No landscape buffers on either side of the sidewalk
  • A shorter retaining wall with less impact to Cougar Mountain

No other changes were recommended for roadway design.

During the open house, staff and consultants will present the changes, answer any questions and review next steps for the project.

Learn more via this presentation and memo, and watch online.
