Seattle Business Magazine recently awarded the City of Issaquah with a first-place Green Washington Award.

In its current issue, the magazine named the most sustainable 50 organizations throughout the state. Issaquah was honored as one of the Top 12 awardees – winning first place in the government category.

“The City has promoted green business and development through partnerships, such as its collaboration with Built Green on the net-zero energy zHome project, the first of its kind in the nation,” the article states. “Issaquah has also preserved and restored open spaces within City limits, including a newly-acquired 101-acre swath along the base of neighboring Tiger Mountain. And the City of Issaquah has partnered with Seattle Tilth to create the Pickering Farm Teaching Garden, which educates schoolchildren and adults on the essentials of organic gardening and local food production.”

Other Issaquah businesses and partners in the Top 50 included WISErg, CleanScapes and the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties.

"Just as Washington state led the way in the aerospace revolution and the software revolution, we can lead the way in the clean tech revolution," said Washington governor-elect Jay Inslee in his keynote speech.

Winners were selected from a large pool of nominations by a panel of judges from prominent organizations in the region, including the Washington Environmental Council, Climate Solutions, the Bainbridge Graduate Institute and the Washington Clean Technology Alliance.
