[ARCHIVED] BPA to Manage Vegetation Along Power Lines

Bonneville Power Administration’s (BPA) will soon manage vegetation along the power line’s right-of-way, which crosses the Lake Tradition area, as well as the Issaquah Highlands (see map).

The vegetation – mostly invasive brush and immature trees – must be managed to ensure safety and reliability of the transmission lines and towers.

To supplement their cutting and mowing, crews will also be applying herbicides only when necessary. BPA endeavors to use the least toxic herbicides commercially available – in this case, Garlon 3A.

Park and trail users (including those with dogs) should avoid areas applied with the herbicide. A blue tint is added to the herbicide so it is visually noticeable.

BPA estimates beginning vegetation work in Issaquah the week of July 29. It’s expected the work will take a few weeks to complete.

Questions? Contact BPA at 1-800-836-6619 or communications@bpa.gov. More information on the project is available online.
