The popular Swamp Trail, a family friendly trail that is part of the Tradition Plateau trail system, has re-opened after the Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) workers did general trail improvements and replaced the old boardwalk, improving the trail safety and accessibility.
The old boardwalk had been in service for 25 years but the wooden structure was starting to rot and the surface of the boardwalk became hazardous during winter months and suffered from seasonal closures over the last 10 years.
With the new boardwalk in place those seasonal restrictions have been lifted thanks to a new diamond pier foundational structure and a new fiberglass surface with grit that should ensure year round traction.
Removal of the old boardwalk by WCC workers took approximately 4 months with construction of the new boardwalk another 4 months.
