In early 2020, Issaquah engaged with the community (including a walking tour and workshop); Planning Policy and Development commissions; and City Council regarding potential architectural standards for new/remodeled properties in the Single Family – Duplex zoning district of Olde Town (see map). That engagement made it clear that the standards should have a light touch in order to allow for diverse architectural styles – while still maintaining residential Olde Town’s existing character.
These draft architectural standards – which are preliminary – include:
- Mass and scale
- Roof design
- Building materials and colors
- Windows, doors and front porches
- Front yards
- Driveways
These draft standards will be presented and discussed at a joint meeting of the Planning Policy and Development Commissions on Oct. 7.
Provide your comments during that meeting, or by contacting Senior Planner Christen Leeson. No recommendations will be made on Oct. 7. Instead, the meeting is an opportunity to receive feedback and amend the proposed standards, if needed. City Council action is estimated for later this year, or early next year.
