[ARCHIVED] Your Parks: Voters to Decide in November

This November, Issaquah voters will decide on a park bond measure to protect open space and wildlife habitat, improve neighborhood parks and make repairs to Julius Boehm Pool.

Voters will decide on the $10 million park bond measure as part of the Nov. 5, 2013, general election ballot.

If passed, the measure would fund acquisition of open space, “green necklace” and creekside lands, as well as improvements to parks and facilities, including:

• Julius Boehm Pool
• Central Park • Tibbetts Valley Park
• Confluence Parks Area • Meerwood Park
• Gibson Park

This list came together after an extensive public process.

That process started with a community survey, and then expanded to include community leaders through the Park Bond Citizen Advisory Committee, as well as input from more than 300 citizens through our open house, online survey and social media.

In order to educate voters, we’re also seeking community members to serve on pro and con committees focused on the park bond measure.

The pro and con committees consist of members of the public who agree to write a statement in favor of or in opposition to the measure. That information is then included in the King County Local Voters’ Pamphlet that is mailed to voters before the election.

There is a limit of three members per committee.

If you’re interested, please submit your name and information by 4 p.m. July 26, 2013. Mayor Ava Frisinger will then appoint members to the pro and con committees.

Each committee is responsible for writing a statement of up to 200 words explaining its position.
