The City of Issaquah is proposing the adoption of new Olde Town Architectural Standards that – if approved by the City Council early in 2021 – would apply to properties located in our Single Family – Duplex zoning district in Olde Town (see the gold shaded area in this map). This may be of interest to you if you plan to develop your property, make structural changes or add a second-story addition.
These proposed changes follow action items listed in Issaquah's Olde Town Subarea Plan, which was updated in 2018 following a two-year engagement process. The plan focuses on preserving our historic downtown core and improving our community’s quality of life.
If the proposed architectural standards are approved, new development, a project requiring structural changes, and second-story additions would need to comply with the changes. Meanwhile, all existing development and houses would be grandfathered to the previous regulations.
The proposed standards would apply to shape and size; roof design; building materials and colors; windows, doors and front porches; front yards; and driveways and garages of buildings located within the Single Family – Duplex zoning district.

The City’s Planning Policy Commission will take public testimony on this proposal at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10, 2020 during a virtual meeting. To make comments, please sign-up in advance. The meeting will also be streamed live and recorded for later viewing on the City’s YouTube Channel.
In addition, the City Council is tentatively scheduled to study this topic and take public comment during its Jan. 12 ,2021 study session (no action will be taken), followed by possible adoption during its Feb. 1, 2021 regular meeting.
