[ARCHIVED] City of Issaquah Opens Cooling Center

High Heat

With forecasted record temperatures of over 100 degrees, the City of Issaquah is opening a cooling center from 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday, June 28 at the Issaquah Senior Center. The King County Library System is also opening some regional locations to serve as cooling centers on Monday June 28. The Issaquah branch will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Additional days may be added as needed. Water and snacks will be available for our guests, along with some frozen treats.

Please spread the word to those who may need a cool place in the upcoming days.

Please stay safe and check on your neighbors, relatives and those vulnerable to extreme temperatures.   


Given the extreme conditions, leashed dogs and crated cats are permitted at the Senior Center. However, pets must be under owner control at all times and any pet-related “accidents” must be cleaned up by the pet owner.

Safety Tips

  • Drink plenty of water – recommended amount is 1 cup per 15 minutes or 1 quart per hour.
  • Know the signs/symptoms of heat-related illness; monitor yourself and co-workers.
  • Block out direct sun or other heat sources.
  • Use cooling fans/air conditioning, rest regularly.
  • Wear lightweight, light colored, loose fitting clothes.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks or heavy meals.
