Issaquah residents have partnered with Feet First to create a series of fun neighborhood walks throughout August and September intended to motivate people to explore their environment, share their observations and encourage others to walk more.
Trained Neighborhood Walking Ambassadors will facilitate walks and conversation to highlight what they love about their community and how they can make their neighborhood safer, easier and more inviting to walk in. Information will be collected and incorporated into our Bicycle & Pedestrian Action Plan.
Feet First has been working with us to improve Issaquah’s walkability.
“The City is interested in highlighting walking as part of creating a healthy place to live, and encouraging people who are excited about that mission to become Walking Ambassadors for Issaquah,” Office of Sustainability Director David Fujimoto said.
Walks will take place all over the city. Popular locations with the ambassadors include downtown, Issaquah Highlands and Gilman Boulevard.
The Issaquah Neighborhood Walk Series plays an important role in inspiring a shift to foot-friendly development by giving participants the chance to share observations and recommendations.
Walks are scheduled for Aug, 10, 11, 20 and 30, and Sept. 22, 2013. Find more details at Feet First’s website and MeetUp.
“We imagine a different way of people who live, work and play to connect with their surroundings," Feet First Executive Director Lisa Quinn said. "The Issaquah Neighborhood Walks Series help people take steps towards improving personal and environmental health, all while sharing knowledge.”
