Learn how to transform food and yard waste into compost, get tips to safely eliminate garden pests and more by enrolling in the Master Recycler Composter-Eastside program.
It’s a volunteer training and outreach program to educate residents about recycling, backyard composting, organic gardening concepts and resource conservation.
Master Recycler Composter-Eastside is a partnership of the City of Issaquah and Seattle Tilth, as well as the cities of Bellevue, Bothell and Kirkland.
The next class is scheduled for September, on three Wednesday evenings and four Saturdays starting Sept. 4, 2013.
Wednesday sessions will be lecture format and the Saturday sessions will be hands-on workshops. Participants are expected to attend all sessions.
To learn more and apply, visit the Seattle Tilth website.
Participants gain knowledge, skills and tools to teach their friends, neighbors and community members. The experience includes classroom learning, hands-on experience and field trips.
Once you’ve completed the course, contribute 20 hours offering compost and recycling education to your community.
Sid Gupta, a Master Recycler Composter-Eastside 2012 program participant, helped divert more 700 pounds of food waste through his outreach project at the Vedic Cultural Center. Read his blog post about the experience.
