[ARCHIVED] Traffic Alert: 2nd Avenue SE and SE Bush Street

City crews are working on a series of improvements to the intersection of 2nd Avenue SE and SE Bush Street in Olde Town.

The intersection will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m to pave and stripe the intersection. A detour will be in place.

Project Background

Substantial work, including closures, were done on the intersection in August and September 2022. This phase of the work has been completed.

Project Details

This project includes improvements to the intersection, including concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter bulb-outs, water line relocation, storm water improvements and street lighting within the intersection. Led by community feedback, this project will be implementing additional measures to improve the effectiveness of traffic calming in this area. These measures include but are not limited to:

  • Improved nighttime illumination
  • Storm water and watermain improvements
  • Wider sidewalk spaces
  • Improved ADA accessibility
  • Lane width reduction in an effort to reduce vehicle speeds

City engineers will evaluate the new hardscape improvements once this project has been completed. If the evaluation determines the need for flashing beacons or other assistive devices for street crossing, those will be installed in the intersection, without impacting any of the new improvements.

Street lighting will be installed as part of a separate contract, at a later date. Teams are working on fabricating the streetlights. Due to supply chain issues, these lights will not be installed for about four months.
