Seniors at the Issaquah Senior Center organized a celebration to mark the Lunar New Year. Some of the Chinese program participants approached Senior Center staff and proposed hosting a Lunar New Year celebration. The idea took off from there — with the seniors leading the planning and preparation efforts, in partnership with staff members. The seniors were involved in every step of the process, from advertising to shopping and cooking special treats for the event.
The celebration was a wonderful success, with 100 people in attendance. The Senior Center was full! The program included joyous dancing, a piano performance, a violin solo and a singing group. "It really was a great collaborative event," shared Senior Center Supervisor Kirstin May.
