Congratulations to our hometown Issaquah Lions and Issaquah Wildcats, both of whom are advancing to the 2023 Winter Games, a state-wide tournament!
The Wildcats, part of Master's Group A, and the Lions, part of Master's Group E, placed second in their respective divisions at Regionals in Enumclaw, earning them both a spot in the state tournament in Wenatchee.
Jenny, an Issaquah Lion athlete, said her team "gives me time with my friends and time to be active. It has been over 20 years since I’ve been to state for basketball, and it is well deserved by this new little team. So excited Coach George has worked really hard on coaching us.”
Both teams are coached by Issaquah residents passionate about the program; the Wildcats are coached by Jiff Searing and the Lions are coached by George Whitehouse. Mr. Searing has coached the Wildcats for many years. His son is also one of the athletes! Wildcat Wil S. shared, "What I love most is working as a team and the power of friendship. I’m really looking forward to the competition at state — it brings back memories of being in high school!"
The state basketball tournament begins on March 3 in Wenatchee, Washington.
Issaquah is rooting for you!
