The weekly crime blotter provides a local snapshot of crimes, arrests and other law enforcement activity in the City of Issaquah for the prior week. The blotter compiles incidents deemed noteworthy by IPD and does not include all calls, incidents or self-initiated activities handled by officers. To be respectful of privacy, exact addresses and victim/arrestee names are not included in this listing.

Call Type: Fraud (Multiple)

Time/Date: 1355, 03/13/23

Location: 1100 BLK Westridge Way NE

Description: On 03/13/23, an individual called to report a substantial fraudulent crypto currency loss. The person reported they began talking with a female who claimed background in crypto currency investments. When they set up an account on the suggested website, they found that there was an initial gain and then all their funds were then transferred to another fraudulent site without approvals. The incident has been reported to the FBI. 

NOTE: there have been multiple reports regarding the same type of fraudulent activity, starting with meeting a female with background in crypto trading who then steal their investment money. Please, only invest with reputable establishments or individuals who you know. You can report scams like this and more with the Federal Trade Commission at http://www.reportfraud.ftc.gov/. Additionally, you can file an Internet Crime Complaint with the FBI at https://www.ic3.gov/Home/FileComplaint.

Call Type: Unwanted Subject (Warrant)

Time/Date: 2008, 03/13/23

Location: 1400 BLK Highlands DR NE

Description: A call was received around 2008 hrs reporting concern for a male who would not leave a business after 3 hours and was having difficulty staying awake. Officers arrived to find the suspect passed out in a booth. After a brief exchange, it was discovered that the individual had several injuries but refused to give any information or identification. It was later learned that the individual had a felony warrant out for their arrest. The individual was taken to the hospital and upon clearance, was arrested on their warrant and additionally cited for Trespassing in the 1^st Degree and Providing False Statements. 

Call Type: Theft Report (Stolen Equipment)

Time/Date: 1129, 03/14/23

Location: 700 BLK NW Gilman BLVD

Description: On 03/14/23, a local business called to report that a man came in to purchase some painting equipment on behalf of his company. However, the company called reporting the suspect did not work for them. The local business provided information for the suspect, which matched the details IPD had acquired, and a citation was issued to the suspect for Theft in the 3^rd Degree.   

Call Type: Suspicious (Suspected Car Prowling/ Warrant)

Time/Date: 2244, 03/14/23

Location: SE Newport Way & SE 54th South

Description: Around 2244 hrs, a concerned caller reported seeing a male in a ditch wearing a black hoodie with a flashlight. Responding officers contacted said male who falsely claimed to live in the area and was looking for saplings. After running his name, it was found he had multiple warrants out for his arrest. The suspect was then arrested on his warrants and transported to the King County Jail. 

Call Type: Burglary In-Progress

Time/Date: 0010, 03/15/23

Location: 2400 BLK Newport Way NW

Description: On 03/15/23, an employee of a local business reported observing a white male wearing all black breaking the lock off a garage door and entering the garage of a nearby resident’s home while reviewing his security footage. Responding officers set a perimeter and entered the garage, to find the suspect hiding in a small storage unit inside the garage. The suspect additionally matched descriptions of a man prowling a nearby residential parking area. The suspect was arrested on investigation of two counts of Vehicle Prowl and having Possession of Burglary Tools and was then transported to the King County Jail. 

NOTE: IPD would like to thank that local employee for catching this crime in the act and reporting it! Thanks to them, the suspect was caught, and the local resident was able to get their property back before anything else happened. 

Call Type: Disturbance (Double Shooting)

Time/Date: 0825, 03/15/23

Location: 1800 BLK 15th PL NW

Description: Around 0825 hrs, a call was received reporting an emergent disturbance at a local business. While enroute, dispatch notified officers there was a possible shooting. Upon arrival, two victims with gunshot wounds were found in the main office. The first officers began administering first aid until an ambulance arrived and could relieve them, while other officers worked on identifying the suspect, their whereabouts, securing the premises and locking down a local school and notifying any immediate neighboring businesses. Both victims were taken promptly to Harborview for treatment. The suspect was shortly thereafter found in Thurston County with a self-inflicted wound. They were transported to Harborview hospital for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. Both victims are presently alive and undergoing continued treatment at the hospital. 

NOTE: IPD would like to thank all local agencies who offered assistance and provided support, as well as thanking all individuals who helped guide officers to the right location to expedite care to the victims. While this was an awful act of violence, our community came together to support each other and get help where it was needed most urgently in attempt to save two lives. For this, we are most grateful.   

Call Type: Theft In-Progress (Juvenile-Related)

Time/Date: 1746, 03/15/23

Location: 700 BLK NW Gilman BLVD

Description: At approximately 1746 hrs on 03/15/23, three juveniles were observed concealing a large quantity of merchandise in tote bags and backpacks before attempting to leave a local business. Officers already on scene for a local theft patrolling detail, were able to stop the youths and recover all merchandise. However, due to current laws, the juveniles had to be let go after identifying themselves.   

Call Type: Suspicious (Minor Parking Lot Fire)

Time/Date: 0308, 03/16/23

Location: 1400 BLK NW Sammamish RD

Description: On 03/16/23 a caller reported a transient couple starting a fire in a parking lot and surrounding it with shopping carts. Responding officers found one female there at the time who promptly put out the fire and agreed not to light another one. The officers offered resources given their situation, but the subject declined all services.  

Call Type: Suspicious (Creepy Man being Creepy)

Time/Date: 2055, 03/16/23

Location: 900 BLK NE Park DR

Description: Around 2055 hrs, a caller reported observing a male subject wearing a Michael Myers mask standing behind a garbage can staring at the caller and their child. The caller reported the man wouldn’t move and was “just standing there”. Responding officers searched for the Michael Myers lookalike but were unable to locate him.  

Call Type: Suspicious/Fraud (Multiple)

Time/Date: 1606, 03/17/23

Location: 130 E Sunset Way

Description: IPD has received multiple reports of scammers using a fake IPD phone number and badge numbers to defraud residents in our area. These scammers have been found to demand bitcoin.  

NOTE: IPD will *NEVER* call you to demand money, bitcoin, or any other form of payment. If you receive police contact and are not sure you are speaking to an actual officer, you can call 911 to confirm. 

Call Type: Suspicious/ Juvenile-Related (Juvenile Fight Club)

Time/Date: 2035, 03/18/23

Location: 1900 BLK NE Park DR

Description: On 03/18/23, a call was received reporting roughly 150 juveniles gathered for a fight. Officers arrived to find the subjects had a ring set up on the baseball diamond and were boxing. All the juveniles fled as officers walked the area to make sure there were no injured persons.  

Call Type: Theft In-Progress (Multiple)

Time/Date: around 2000 hrs, 03/19/23

Location: 700 and 1000 BLKS Gilman BLVD

Description: On 03/19/23, there were multiple thefts reported around the same time off Gilman Boulevard. In these instances, a male suspect in their 20-30’s stole items and took off on foot. In each of these incidents, officers were able to locate a subject matching the description and confirm them as the suspects committing the crime. In each instance, the merchandise was recovered and returned to the local businesses. The suspects were all arrested on investigation of Theft in the 3^rd Degree and booked into the Issaquah City Jail.
