[ARCHIVED] - Students: “Influence the Choice” on Alcohol, Drugs -

Local middle- and high-school students can help their friends resist alcohol, marijuana and prescription drug temptations by competing in the “Influence the Choice” video contest.

Sponsored by the Issaquah Drug Free Community Coalition, the contest invites students in sixth to 12th grades to create short video commercials telling their peers how to resist alcohol and drugs in a positive way.

Entrants should create video “commercials” of two minutes or less by Feb. 28, 2014.

The creator of the best video will receive a grand prize of $800. Other awards include first-, second- and third-place prizes of $100, $75 and $50 in the categories of Most Influential Alcohol Video, Most Influential Marijuana Video and Most Influential Prescription Drug Video.

“Almost every student is faced with a choice about alcohol or drugs during their school years,” said Dianne Bugge, Issaquah Community Network board and “Influence the Choice” contest chairperson. “We think the best way to address this situation is to get young people talking to young people, and video is a great venue for starting the dialogue.”
