Citywide Strategic Plan: Our Issaquah
Our Voice, Our Vision, Our Future

City Council has heard from you and has endorsed a new Vision, Mission and Guiding Principles! Thank you for your input and engagement in developing this important milestone.

This summer, City Council also endorsed six Strategic Priority Areas. Those priority areas are: Mobility, Growth & Development, Environmental Stewardship, Social & Economic Vitality, Core Infrastructure, and City Leadership & Services.

Community Input

City staff has been busy working to prepare draft Goals and Objectives related to each of the priority areas. A survey was pushed out to the public to gather input. The survey closed on October 8th.

Updated City Vision, Mission and Guiding Principles

Issaquah thrives as a welcoming community, creating a sustainable legacy for future generations that honors its rich history and passion for the natural environment.

Foster a safe, vibrant, livable, and inclusive community through effective stewardship and quality public services.

Guiding Principles

Foster community pride, engagement, strong and safe neighborhoods, and diverse opportunities.

Effectively steward our natural environment to ensure a sustainable legacy for future generations.

Community Prosperity

Sustain a vibrant place to live and work with a stable and robust economy, an engaging civic culture, and an integrated transportation system.

Service Excellence

Deliver proactive, efficient, and effective public services for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Ensure that Issaquah’s services and outstanding quality of life are accessible to everyone.

While our region is experiencing tremendous growth and economic prosperity, Issaquah is in a desirable and challenging position. Our developing urbanism will bring us more opportunities for jobs, entertainment, recreation and services. However, we also face issues of access, affordability, mobility and stewardship.

To ensure our community’s values and vision are reflected in future decision making, the City is creating a citywide strategic plan.

Starting in March 2018, we started working on Our Issaquah, which will be completed in three phases.

Phase 1: Who We Are (Completed)
Engaging with the community and assessing current conditions to develop our shared vision and values.

We heard from you! In April and May 2018, 1,300 people responded via an online survey; community-led meetings; focus groups; and “pop-ups” at public events.

Learn more via this report.

Phase 2: Where We Want to Go (Completed)
Working through strategic priorities to establish specific goals and objectives.

Staff work groups, citizen feedback, and council discussion helped create a series of Goals and Objectives. These were endorsed by City Council on October 15th.

See endorsed Goals and Objectives here.

Phase 3: How We Will Get There (Current Phase)
Planning how the City will implement its strategic priorities within City departments and the community.
